seasonal icon drops

An app icon that changes with the vibes

MemeScanr's app icon automatically switches to seasonal variants on key dates throughout the year — Halloween, Christmas, Pride, Lunar New Year, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and more. No manual toggle. Open the app on October 31st and you'll find a pumpkin on your home screen.

How it works

MemeScanr uses iOS's built-in alternate app icons API. Every time the app launches, it checks today's date against a list of seasonal windows. If today matches, the app asks iOS to swap the home screen icon to the seasonal variant. No server call, no update required, no user action.

When the season ends, the icon quietly switches back to the default. Users get to keep whichever icon was active last — so if you loved the Halloween pumpkin, you can pin it in Settings and stop the auto-rotation.

Can I turn it off?

Yes. Go to Settings → App Icon inside MemeScanr. You can pick any icon you've seen before — including the default — and pin it. That disables the seasonal rotation entirely. If you later change your mind, tap "auto-rotate" to turn it back on.

Why seasonal icons?

Most apps you use every day look the same as they did five years ago. MemeScanr is meant to feel alive. Holidays are a zero-effort way to surprise users once or twice a month without pushing a notification or sending an email. It's delight as a product strategy.

For Apple editorial: MemeScanr's seasonal icon drops use the standard setAlternateIconName() API and are fully accessible. Every variant is hand-designed at 1x, 2x, and 3x resolutions and ships with the app bundle — no over-the-air asset download.
