privacy policy

the short version: we literally don't have a server. your photos never leave your phone. scanning, classification, compression — everything runs on your device. we can't see your photos even if we wanted to.
what we don't collect
we don't collect, upload, transmit, or store your photos, videos, contacts, or any media content. period. there is no cloud. there is no backend. there is no server.
on-device processing
memescanr scans your photo library entirely on your iphone/ipad. the scan engine (pHash fingerprinting, ML classification, blur detection) runs locally using your device's processor. no images are sent anywhere.
backroom (private vault)
items stored in the backroom are saved locally on your device in the app's sandboxed container. they are protected by face id and/or a salted, hashed pin (SHA-256, 1000 iterations). we cannot access these items. if you delete the app, backroom items are permanently deleted.
contacts
when you use contacts cleanup, memescanr reads your contacts locally to detect duplicates. contacts are never uploaded. the duplicate detection algorithm (fuzzy matching, levenshtein distance) runs entirely on-device.
analytics & crash reporting
we use firebase crashlytics and firebase analytics to collect:
- crash reports (stack traces, device model, os version — no photo data)
- anonymous usage events (scan started, items deleted — no content data)
these contain zero information about your photos, contacts, or personal content. they help us fix bugs and understand which features are used.
notifications
if you enable notifications, they are scheduled locally on your device. no push notification server is involved. notification content is generated on-device based on your scan results.
icloud backups
ios may include some app data in your icloud backup. this is controlled by your ios settings, not by memescanr. we don't have access to your icloud.
subscriptions
premium subscriptions are processed entirely through apple's storekit framework. we don't collect or store payment information. apple handles all billing.
children's privacy
memescanr does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. the app does not require an account and collects no personal information.
changes to this policy
we'll update this page if anything changes. continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
