How to hide private photos on iPhone (the actually-private way)

Apple's built-in Hidden album is a folder most people don't look at — but it still lives inside the Photos app, still syncs to iCloud, and anyone browsing Albums → Utilities can find it. To actually hide photos on iPhone, you need a vault that moves photos out of Photos entirely. MemeScanr's Backroom does that.

Why the iPhone Hidden album isn't really private

When you "hide" a photo in iOS Photos, the photo is moved to an album called Hidden. It's still in the Photos app, still indexed by the system, and still syncs to iCloud Photos by default. iOS 16+ added an optional Face ID lock on the Hidden album, which helps — but the photos still exist where Photos can see them.

Does Backroom sync to iCloud?

No. That's the point. Backroom photos live in MemeScanr's sandboxed on-device container, encrypted at rest using iOS's Data Protection classes. They never touch iCloud, never appear in shared libraries, and can't be accessed from any other device — not even your iPad on the same Apple ID.

How do I move photos into Backroom?

Three ways inside MemeScanr:

1. From any category swipe (Clean → category card → swipe): swipe up on any photo to vault it.
2. From Memory Lane: swipe up on any photo to vault it.
3. From Clean review grid: tap the vault icon on any item.
4. From the Backroom tab: tap "add photos" to bulk-select from your library.

Is Backroom free?

Backroom includes a 7-day free trial that starts the first time you move a photo into the vault. For those 7 days you get unlimited access — Face ID lock, decoy mode, and every feature Premium users have. After day 7 there's a 30-day grace period where you can still view and remove vaulted items, and after day 37 total you need MemeScanr Premium to keep adding new items. Vaulted items are never deleted during this flow — upgrading to Premium at any point restores full access instantly.
